I followed your description to the T but nothing happened when I disconnected my Kobo Aura HD. I reconnected, and followed your description again this time FORMATTING MY MICRO SD CARD INTO FAT (NOT FAT32). My AURA HD vers 2.8.1 is now doing the long update/backup procedure. Just letting everyone know it looks like the Windows 7 default of formatting micro SD to FAT32 causes it to not backup. You Need old standard FAT format.
