The problem comes from having an empty value in Preferences -> Look & Feel -> Book Details -> Default author link template. This is arguably a bug, although it never occurred to me that someone would want to have no link template.

Put a value in the box. The default is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search={author}
