Thumb drives are so easy to damage & so failure prone that you should make REGULAR hard drive backups of all important data.

You can corrupt a thumb drive just by removing it , without following the proper eject procedure.
<sigh>

When will people learn that computer storage comes in only two varieties? That which has crashed, and that which hasn't yet crashed.

For goodness sake, take backups! There are tools that make it trivial to do, and how much is your Calibre library worth to you?

A small amount of foresight can save a whole world of grief.

If you're running Windows, the free Microsoft "Synctoy" tool is an excellent way to sync your Calibre library with an external drive (or, in my case, sync it from one external drive to another). It can be downloaded here.
