Eric Kraft has been writing his series of home-spun recollections detailing the life of imaginary Peter Leroy for nearly thirty years. The Static of the Spheres is one of nine novellas contained within Little Follies, first published in 1983. In this episode, 10 year old Peter and his grandfather build a radio together based on plans from a magazine called "Impractical Craftsman". The other eight stories, plus several other full-length works, are available for sale at Amazon. It is released under the Amazon Encore brand.
The word "sentimental" often crops up in trying to define Kraft's art; I wouldn't argue against that. There is nothing like "free" to see if Kraft's world is tempting enough for you to explore more deeply.
