Not everyone is going to want things the same. But for the people who are complaining about fingerprints before have really used an IR touch reader, swiping will show less fingerprints then a tap. I'm not saying a tap to change the page is wrong. I'm saying a swipe shows less fingerprints and for a lot of people, that's good for them.
