You may be able to do what you want using Calibre's Quickview feature, and leave sorting as it is.
  • Make sure that Tags are being displayed in the Book details panel - Preferences->Look&Feel->Book details
  • Ensure that Book Details Panel is displayed
  • Highlight the Series cell of a book on which you want to check tag consistency
  • Press 'q' on keyboard
  • You will get a list of the books in the Series in a QuickView panel
  • If you double click a book in the Quickview panel it will be made current in the Book List and the Details will change you can see the Tags
  • Even though the QuickView panel is displayed, you have full access to Book List functions so

    • You can edit metadata via the Edit Metadata Window or directly into the Detail for the current book
    • You could also use the Temp Marker plugin to 'mark' books so you can come back later (before closing Calibre) and deal with them
That looks more complicated than it actually is

BR

PS the View Manager plugin is good for saved sort sequences.
