If you still see the update process on a hard reboot, it *badly* failed to install, that would imply an issue somewhere else... Can't say much without logs, my best guess would be a full temp partition, which should *never* happen under normal circumstances, and shouldn't leave the system in a weird state anyway.
More details on exactly what you did/what happened would also probably help...
Anyway, try a hard reset to factory defaults: Hold [HOME] after a hard reboot (> ~20 power slide), you should end up on a screen asking you to type RESET to do a reset to factory defaults.
