That's what I did!
Thanks for the explanation, pdurrant. It was what I was thinking, but it did help make it clearer why it still makes sense with large numbers, and why the speech changed things.
One part of me still thinks that the speech should never have been made though, so that all these annoyingly logical people could have stayed there forever
