Oh ffs...
There is no black and white mode or colour mode, just the one display. It has 1200x1600 sub-pixels clustered into fours for the colour. Displaying black and white uses all the sub-pixels independently. Displaying colours uses the clusters of four resulting in the 600x800 resolution for coloured stuff. I and others have explained this elsewhere, linked to reference material and I've posted a USB microscope shot at 400x mag showing two black lines crossing each other, each one only being one sub-pixel wide (therefore using the whole 1200x1600 resolution). What more do you want?
