Still, the paper and ebook rights might be independent. Also, if the publisher lost rights to both they would have to stop publishing but current stock in the hands of a retailer could still be sold. With ebooks that would mean an immediate end to availability, but with paper the retailer might still have stock for some time (years in cases of slow moving stock).
