Fergus Hume [1859–1932]
The Silent House [1907]
(This has also appeared under the title, “The Silent House in Pimlico.”)
A ‘locked room’ mystery, where a murder is committed in a house that has a reputation for being haunted. The first half of the book leads the reader to suppose that they know who did it. Then the second half is full of plot twists.
Contains a very stereotypical depiction of a Gipsy (Roma) woman.
