How I read a series depends on the series. Some I've read straight through because it captured my attention that well. Others I've started and stop and still have to go back to. But those are ones where the books are not leaving a cliff hanger.
The problem now is that I have a lot to read. So instead of reading a series straight on, I'm taking a break in between each book with another book. The Word & Void series I am now reading is a different book in between each.
What I plan on doing is making a list of series I am reading so I know where I left off on each one. I am going to use
FictFact to keep track. That way I'll get notified if any more books in a series I am reading have come out.
