Or have I misunderestimated something. I'm of course not suggesting piracy, however, there's no benefit in pretending you are not pirating books just because you've found a convoluted method of doing it.
Its piracy? Its using the tools Amazon gives us, it allows sharing, and keeps DRM etc open. It gives you the same abilities to share and use an e-book like a book, without resorting to removing DRM and sharing it with the world.

The "convoluted" system only works with:

People you trust.
People you know personally.
