I was able to change the default monospace font-
KindleBlackboxC- to another-
DejaVu Sans Mono. If you're using
/etc/fonts/local.conf, try adding this:

<edit name="family" mode="assign"><string>DejaVu Sans Mono</string></edit>
</match>
Replace
DejaVu Sans Mono with your preferred monospace font.
