It's true that the latest PB firmwares haven't been rooted, but I haven't found that to be a problem when developing for the devices. PB provides an SDK, and their UI software looks in the user-accessible partitions for configuration files, dictionaries, themes, and programs to run. The system seems to be purposely designed to allow user customization. So, I'm curious about why the Boox devices are considered to be more open. Is it because they can be rooted?
