The information about an app's permissions may lead one to choose not to install it, if the permissions do not make sense, or if they introduce exposures one does not want to be subjected to. Note - there have, on occasion, been bad apps up on the Market, so it can happen. Once discovered, Google removed them (and I believe remotely uninstalled from devices). I'm not sure apps are checked out prior to developers putting them up, even now, or are they?
