An Ereader that is as close to Paper as Possible

Hello,
My name is Marty. I'm a medical student over at PCOM in Philadelphia. I'm looking to buy my GF an E-READER for Christmas. I want to be able to highlight/take notes on it. PDFs are my GF's life right now, so one way or another I'd like to be able to get the PDFs on there. I trust the crazy guys who figure out how to do everything that pop up in google searches. I'm sure someone's figured out (even if it's illegal) how to, say, get DRM protected Adobe files onto your Kindle in a readable format.

Please let me know if you find anything that I can WRITE ON or HIGHLIGHT ON like I can on Paper.

THANK YOU so much in advance.

MD.
