I have the same problem; my 15" TV monitor is turned down all the way and in the mornings it can still be painfully bright. I also usually turn my laptops' brightness down to the minimum. One thing for sure, this almost never happened with the old active- matrix and passive- matrix screens. Most of them were easily readable with the backlight turned completely off, especially in bright sunlight.
