Basically a consortium of magazine publishers are getting together to set up their own sort of retail store for digital versions of their publications.
The article doesn't even mention the eternally-rumored Apple tablet, just existing devices.
Offhand I don't blame magazines for taking such a move, but I don't see how this is really going to work. It's just going to put another intermediary layer between the publishers and their customers, and these companies have a lot of competing interests.
