The taste in bestsellers seems to change very little over time. For example in the 1920s there is a run of Zane Grey books -- he wrote about the American west. Many of the books would today be classified as "romances."

Some time back a member posted the bestsellers from around 1900 in the download section. I started a few of them and could not finish them. Then again, I can't finish any of the modern romance books either.
