I lurked on mobileread for about 6 months till I bought my first ereader and it was Aluratek Libre! Very happy with my decision.

The biggest difference between Libre and other ereaders is the screen, Libre uses a different technology screen than other ereaders. Looks wise, Libre screen is "greener" than other readers, to me it looks great!
Libre screen has the advantage that it can turn quicker. Disadvantage(to some, not me) is lower battery life, still Libre can be used for a few days real usage (20 hours total reading time) before recharging.

As it was mentioned in a post above, a nice plus (especially for a present) is that Libre comes with everything, you don't really need to buy any accessories for it.
