It doesn't surprise me that the book uses settings you have visited Tony. In some of the books on writing that I have it suggests that if your story is set in a real place you visit it if possible. Or at least study maps and look at pictures (if you can't travel) so that you can avoid errors like putting a bakery where the police station is etc.
