My advice is to stay away from Smashwords. Give the quirks of iBooks and the fact that the ePub you get out of Smashwords is a Word document converted to ePub is not going to fly. The code under the hood is not good and the formatting can be not optimal (what was wanted). So really, unless you can hand tune the code, Smashwords is just going to give a suboptimal real in a lot of cases.
