Good point. When I take it into direct sunlight the light gray looks almost white. If the screen were already a bright white, then I think bright lighting would make the glare too uncomfortable for reading. I think the Pearl designers had to hit upon a good compromise of light background and dark text that would work in most situations. I don't think a pure white background is even possible with eInk technology, but I'm really guessing at that. At any rate they turned out a winner.

Now the race in on to see how long it takes Sony, B&N, and the other major players to release their readers with Pearl screens. I love my KDXG and my K3, but I would love to see some stiff competition from other manufacturers so that we continue to have better and better readers being released each year. Competition is good for us as consumers.
