A mysterious stranger seeks out the surviving members of a religious community, hiding in Paris, and asks them to celebrate a requiem mass for the repose of the soul of the executed king, Louis XVI. But who is he, and what are his motives?
I’ve restored the italics and accents, checked the translation and added a picture and a couple of brief notes.
