Another point is that if someone is carrying around their $140 device on a daily basis, it has a high chance of falling and breaking. That means that if left unprotected there is a chance of breaking the $140 device, therefore requiring another $140 purchase. So a $50 case to prevent a second $140 purchase seems reasonable to me.
