I am sure there are may methods of loading photos on your Kobo.
Here is one way to add a photo album to your Kobo eReader. To save memory, size photos to 312 pixels wide x 255 pixels high (or smaller) at 72 dpi and save as .jpg. There is no need to change the pics to black and white as Kobo will do that automatically. Next open MS Word (I use MS Office 2007) and size a page to 3.5 in wide X 4.3 in high (or 90 mm x 110 mm) and then insert photos. Once completed, save as a .PDF and then load onto KOBO. I saved the PDF file on an SD memory card and loaded the card into the Kobo card slot (top left of the eReader). Feel free to download a sample PDF photo album at
http://clickondavid.com/index-6.html. I created it using the above method. Download to your desktop and then transfer to KOBO. It will show up as a document. The pics are of Winchester, a Norwegian Forest Cat.
