I guess I did everything exactly wrong:

1. Uninstalled Calibre 32-bit
2. Installed Calibre 64-bit
3. Everything worked right out of the box - plug ins, DRM tools, conversions, everything, just like it did in the original program. All my settings remained intact. All my books retained all of their properties.

Couldn't have been any more painless.
