After re-downloading the book, try opening it again before doing any conversion. If the re-downloaded book still crashes your reader I would notify Sony. Occasionally publishers screw up the ePub formatting just enough that a Sony reader pukes when it tries to read it. Just one meta tag entered incorrectly, depending on which tag, and the reader can puke.

Quote:
Create a copy of the epub.
Rename the *.epub to *.zip and unzip it.
Now you will have a html version of your book. Open the html in your browser, copy all and paste into Word. Check the formatting to be as you desire. Scan through and make sure there aren't any strange symbols or null characters, then save it as Web Page, Filtered html. Import that into Calibre and convert back to epub or to lrf.
Good suggestion. However large ePubs can have multiple HTML files. Sony readers apparently have a problem with HTML files bigger than 260 KB so they break the book out over multiple files. I've got a Bible ePub that contains nearly 100 HTML files.
