Dickens wrote "A Child's History of England" between 1850 and 1853. It really doesn't have a great deal to recommend it as "history" as the term is currently understood - Dickens' view seems to have been somewhat "black and white", with kings either being "saviours of England" or "monstrous villains". Still, it's a fun piece of writing and contains lots of good anecdotes - true and otherwise - about the history of England, from Roman times up to the "Glorious Revolution" of 1688.
As always, enjoy!
