Since you own a K3 (Kindle Keyboard) you have the option to put the K3 software on your DX to make them more similar (if you feel comfortable with it). I believe it will help with your KF8 format issues (though I only read the original DRM'd files on my Kindles, so I can't swear to it). I used this hack with my DXG.

At present, my K3 (a replacement from the original) is running firmware 3.4 and my DXG is running 3.3 (from my original K3 image).
