Les "Souvenirs militaires" du comte Hippolyte d'Espinchal (1777-1864) comportent deux tomes. L'œuvre publiée en 1901 a fait l'objet d'une réédition en 2005. Les évènements relatés sont considérés comme parfaitement authentiques.
Certaines parties de ces Souvenirs se lisent comme un roman d'aventures. Je recommande au lecteur pressé le chapitre XV à la fin du tome premier qui raconte l'escorte d'un convoi à travers l'Espagne soulevée.
