Anna Katharine Green [Mrs Charles Rohlfs] (1846–1935)
Lost Man’s Lane: A Second Episode in the Life of Amelia Butterworth
Copyright, 1898. First published, 1899.

A mystery novel. Miss Amelia Butterworth makes a second outing to help the New York detective, Mr Gryce.
In a remote village people keep disappearing while crossing ‘Dead Man’s Lane’. Miss Butterworth, a maiden lady with firm principles and considerable ingenuity, investigates with her usual adroitness. She arranges to stay with the children of a former schoolmate. But why are there mysterious noises and screams in the night? What is all this talk of a phantom coach? Has Miss Butterworth accidentally strayed into a Gothic novel?

I made this up from scans at The Internet Archive. I have edited, reformatted and added a cover.
