Without any damage to the packaging box, ill say its unlikely.

From the looks of it it seems to have multiple fracture points without any surface damage, so twisting is probably your cause. Its possible when it was assembled it was already stressed, and a little knock pushed it past its elastic limit.

But thats just a guess.
