I have not tried it, but there are a couple of ebook sounding save as options in NeoOffice. One is a pdb format which may or may not be mobi. The other is an xml format which is probably not epub, but might be. In case you do not know, NeoOffice is a port of OpenOffice to the native Apple GUI. It is free.
