Android might be fine. One can install applications that desires. There is one big but. M92 hw specs are good for e-ink reader, but rather poor for tablet. Today's applications might work fine, but in a year or two the applications will be designed to run satisfactory on hw that will probably be several times more powerful in CPU speed, number of CPU cores and available RAM memory...
We will see... I do not think, Onyx wants to stop development of its own firmware and replace it by android. In that case they would not invest in creating a new pdf reader...

As far as hardware goes: it could be upgraded. Happens all the time.
