According to WSJ the deal should close by the end of this year. Harper Collins (owned by News Corp) already owns Zondervan so it appears they may corner the Christian/Religious market when this deal is completed. Thomas Nelson was privately owned so revenue and profits are not disclosed. Perhaps, HC sees future growth in revenues with digital Bibles and such since Thomas Nelson was an early ebook producer.
I wonder if this is an attempt by an Agency publisher to extend their dominant position. Simply buy out mid-size and independent publishing companies.
