Author names like H. G. Wells

When I add in books by an author with just initials in the name, Calibre lists the author as "H. G. Wells" in the directory listing as it should.

When I upload those books to my Sony reader though, the author is listed as "Wells, H. G_" in the directory, and in Browse Folders with PRS+ installed. The underscore there is just annoying to me.

If I correct the underscore manually and change it to a period, Browse Folders will show "Wells, H. G" leaving off the period after the G.

Is this something odd that Calibre does on the upload to the reader? or a quirk within the reader itself? The only way I can think of getting around it so the names always match will be to use "H G Wells" and eliminate any periods in the name at all.
