Same for me, and especially with firmwares since 2.3, Wifi always off. In the morning, battery displays 60%, device is set to "sleep", in the afternoon when I want to read, the battery is exhausted. I also noticed those fast and impossible drops of the battery level within seconds.
As my device is more than one year old now, and I know Li-ion batteries are the Achilles heel of handheld devices, I began to think my battery was already dead...
