John Collier's
Fancies and Goodnights has several great stories and all of them are very readable. Most have an element of the fantastic in them, though some just have an unexpected twist at the end and most have a quirky sense of humor. Some were adapted for Alfred Hitchcock and Thriller on TV. Evening Primrose is probably his most anthologized story.
