K4/KT has the same hardware design codenamed
yoshi. But retail models of this design has also their own codenames:
tequila for K4 and
whitney for KT.
There were more than two models for this hardware design.Their traces are available in
/etc/upstart/functions file. Here are names of these models (incuding retail ones), listed in
/proc/board_id prefix order, starting from prefix
000 and up to
005:
- yoshi
- primer
- harv
- tequila
- finkle
- whitney
(Kindle Touch without 3G has
board_id prefix
005, Kindle Touch 3G has
board_id prefix
006, but the share the same codename).
What does these codenames mean? It looks like first prototype has been named
yoshi, following tradition to name after Mario characters. But what about others?
Well, I don't know for sure, but googling for
primer harv tequila finkle leads to book "
The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson.
harv,
tequila and
finkle are names of characters. And
primer is

Nice allusion.
What about
whitney? Unfortunately, I still don't know, what does it mean...
