I think it was Alistair MacLean (with apologies if I'm wrong) that is mildly renowned for, on some isolated occasions, copying entire paragraphs near-verbatim from one book to another, not to mention plots and character.

Still, he wrote enough that a little repetition every now and then might have been inevitable. It didn't appear to affect his significant fanbase.
