Some guys out there made thread to manual add favourite font to PRS-T1, have you give it a try? Now I can read Vietnamese unicode font on my reader without root it, and may be even Japanese font if I try harder. Still love original reader program on PRS-T1, and wish my PRS-T1 also has Kanji dict like your device.
