Are you sure calibre isn't just starting in the system tray?

Exactly what string are you using to start calibre from the command line?

Try using this string to start calibre from the Command prompt.

calibre-debug -g 1> log.txt 2>&1

After it "crashes" view the log.txt file and post the results here.
