Alternative epub viewing software?

There are two things I do not like about the epub viewer on the device, which are stopping me from using epub as my preferred format:

The calculated page numbers that are displayed in the right margin--they are redundant, sometimes obscure the end of a line, and never appear in the same row twice!

The lack of full justification (straight right margin).

I think the chances of getting Sony to fix these two things is remote. Therefore I wonder if would be possible to just replace the existing epub viewing software on the device with an open source version?

I know about the Open Inkpot project, but I quite like the rest of the device software, just this one thing bugs me. (Well other things bug me but we'll leave my personal problems out of this).
