You do not see the fingerprints. I have a lot of fingerprints on my Nokia N85 phone screen and I just read the beginning of a book on it and it was surprisingly readable. Since you have the back light you do not see fingerprints. And they are trivial to remove.
Are there actual empirical studies that shows that eyes are hurt by reading?
