I don't think that is a likely scenario. Remember Amazon is a book seller, and the Kindle is a device that allows them to sell more books. There is no reason for them to stop supporting their own book selling device. Sony, on the other hand, can stop supporting and selling their readers much easier because they have other electronics to focus on.
