First thing to do, determine the current "Don't Call" address range list.
That was interesting in a (frustrating) way -
On a **very first time** attempt to connect to a Wifi AP (mine) -
I kept getting a "failed - check your password" message box;
Hmm... (I don't use passwords on this access point)
AP logs report that the Kpw had (and still was) connected just fine.
? ? ?
Wrong message contents - should be reading:
"failed - could not auto-register your Kindle"
Translation:
Do not install the ip address range blocking before doing your first Wifi connect with a Kpw.
(There goes two hours out of twobob's and my life that we will never get back, Thanks Amazon.)
The currently known Kpw don't call list:

The year old, K3 don't call list:

Note: Also blocks de-registration of the Kpw.
And a whole lot of other "sharing" features (both intended and un-known).
Note: Includes the UK address ranges for our friends in TZ-0.

The second bit of frustration - after the auto-registration process, the firmware defaults to downloading the Kindle store recommended book list (PS: None of them free.).
Duh...
Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Device Options -> Personalize your Kindle -> Recommended content == "OFF".
That fixes that.
You might as well set the time and date while in that part of the menu tree.
TO HACK-IN: Fix the firmware so that Wifi-Only kindles can contact the public NTP system on connect.

Don't feel like paying $40 for a case with a $1.10 magnet in it?
