The one and only pure ereader with a backlight (the iPad is more than just an ereader, but it also has a backlight) is the Sony PRS 700, which is discontinued and had horrible reviews. And technically, it had a sidelight, not a backlight since E ink technology doesn't allow backlighting. If backlight is important to you, you may want to look for a tablet computer instead, either the ipad or one of the many, many Windows CE/XP/7 or Android tablets which are on the market/will be on the market.
Just keep in mind though that those devices measure their battery life in hours, not days since the LCD screen and backlight eat up tremendous amounts of power.
