An interesting side note:
I have been viewing a lot of 3D, DIY, CNC devices recently.
Many of them are using CO2 lasers -
Which ignite at 18Kv, run at 28Kv (and up).

Haven't read anything about "beware of high voltage".
I also haven't read about anybody DIY'ing the power supply for that gas tube.
